See someone this week, not next month
Getting a routine GP appointment in Portsmouth can take weeks. PortsMed exists to fill that gap: a private clinic in North End where you can be seen quickly, face to face, by a clinician with years of NHS frontline experience.
Unlike online-only private GP services, we have a physical clinic you can walk into. That means a proper examination, blood tests taken on the spot with many results back in around 30 minutes, ECGs in the same visit, and a prescription in your hand before you leave.
Every appointment is 20 minutes, so there is time to listen. You pay for the appointment you book and nothing else: no membership, no monthly fee and no hidden extras.
Same-day slots
Book online in minutes or call us. Most patients are seen the same or next working day.
Experienced clinicians

Prescriptions & fit notes
Private prescriptions and fit notes issued where clinically appropriate, in the same appointment.
Diagnostics on site
Blood tests, ECGs, swabs and urine tests done in clinic, with MRI arranged through our imaging partner.

Private GP questions, answered
Is PortsMed a private GP practice?+
PortsMed is a CQC-registered private clinic in North End, Portsmouth. Appointments are led by advanced nurse practitioners and paramedic practitioners, who are independent prescribers trained to assess, diagnose and treat the same everyday illnesses you would normally see a GP for. For anything outside their scope, we arrange onward referral.
Can I get a same-day appointment?+
Usually, yes. We hold same-day and next-day slots Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Book online for the next available time or call the clinic and we will fit you in where we can.
Do I need a referral from my NHS GP?+
No. You can book directly with PortsMed without a referral. You do not need to leave your NHS practice either; many patients use us alongside their GP when they cannot get seen quickly.
Can you prescribe medication?+
Yes. Our practitioners are independent prescribers and can issue a private prescription where clinically appropriate, including antibiotics for infections. You collect the medication from a pharmacy of your choice and pay the pharmacy's price for it.
Can I get a sick note or fit note?+
Where clinically appropriate, our practitioners can issue a private fit note following an appointment. Employers in the UK must accept fit notes signed by nurses, paramedics and other registered healthcare professionals, not only doctors.
What does a private appointment cost?+
Prices are listed on every service page and you pay for exactly what you book. A minor illness appointment is a fixed price with no membership or monthly fee. Blood tests, ECGs and other investigations are priced separately so you only pay for what you need.
Will you share results with my NHS GP?+
Only if you ask us to. By default your results stay with you and your PortsMed clinician. If you would like them sent to your GP, let us know and we will send them on; you can also share them yourself through the NHS App.
Where is the clinic and is there parking?+
We are at 4a Exchange House, 122-124 London Road, North End, Portsmouth PO2 9DD, with the entrance on Stubbington Avenue. There is pay-and-display parking nearby and the clinic is step-free.
