Here to support the NHS,
not replace it
The NHS is under unprecedented pressure. We believe passionately in healthcare and the incredible people who deliver it. PortsMed exists to ease that pressure — providing fast, affordable routine care so the NHS can focus on the patients who need it most.
Supporting the NHS
Working together, not competing
The NHS is the backbone of UK healthcare and we believe in the incredible work its staff do every single day. PortsMed exists to complement the NHS — not to replace it. By providing an accessible alternative for routine care, we help the NHS focus its resources where they matter most: emergency care, complex treatments, and the most vulnerable patients.
Every routine blood test we perform is one fewer appointment an overstretched NHS lab needs to process — freeing up capacity for urgent cases.
Our consultations keep patients out of A&E for non-emergency issues, reducing pressure on emergency departments that are already stretched thin.
We actively encourage patients to maintain their NHS GP registration and use both services in tandem for the best possible care.
Our clinicians come from NHS backgrounds and understand the system — they know when to treat privately and when to refer back to NHS specialists.
If you'd like your GP to have your results, we'll send them on your behalf — and you can share them yourself via the NHS App any time.
By reducing demand on NHS primary care, we help shorten waiting times for everyone — including those who can only access NHS services.
7.25 million
people are currently on NHS waiting lists. Every patient we see for routine care is one fewer person adding to that number.

Faster access when you need it
Same-day and next-day appointments as standard
When you're worried about a symptom, waiting weeks for a GP appointment or months for a diagnostic test isn't just inconvenient — it's stressful and can delay treatment. PortsMed offers rapid access to the care you need, with most patients seen within 24 hours of booking.
Book online in minutes and be seen the same day or next day — no waiting weeks for an appointment slot.
Blood test results back in as little as 20 minutes for on-site rapid tests.
ECG results reviewed by a consultant cardiologist and returned promptly.
Walk in without an appointment and walk out with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and prescription — often in under 30 minutes.
No gatekeeping — you can book directly for the service you need without a GP referral for most appointments.
Appointments available 8am–5pm Mon, Wed–Fri (closed Tuesdays), with phone lines open until 8pm.
13.6 weeks
is the current median NHS wait for treatment — nearly double the pre-pandemic figure. Our average wait is under 24 hours.

Reducing the burden together
Every patient we see helps ease the pressure
NHS GP surgeries are handling record demand with fewer resources. A&E departments haven't met the 4-hour waiting target since 2015. The system is under enormous strain. PortsMed helps by absorbing routine demand that doesn't need to go through overstretched NHS channels.
Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth has A&E waits among the longest in England — we help by keeping non-emergency patients out of A&E
NHS GPs now manage an average of 2,214 patients each, up significantly in recent years. We reduce that load for routine matters
Over 1,450 GP practices have closed or merged since 2015, leaving fewer options for patients. PortsMed provides additional local capacity
8 million NHS hospital appointments are missed each year at a cost of £1.2 billion. Our flexible booking and short wait times mean fewer no-shows
We see patients across a wide range of needs — from consultations and blood tests to screening and more complex investigations — helping reduce the load on NHS clinicians.
Our pay-as-you-go model means no insurance required, making private healthcare accessible to more people and distributing demand more evenly across the system

people in the UK are now seeking private healthcare, with NHS waiting lists cited as the number one reason. This shift helps ease pressure on public services.

Your results, your choice
We don't share with your GP unless you ask
Your data is yours. We keep it secure and only ever share it with your permission. By default, your results stay between you and your PortsMed clinician. If you'd like your GP to have them, we'll send them on your behalf, or you can share them yourself through the NHS App.
Your results are not automatically sent to your NHS GP — we share them only when you specifically ask us to
If you want continuity of care, just tell us and we'll forward your results and clinical notes to your registered GP
You can also share your PortsMed results yourself via the NHS App — once your GP adds them to your record, they'll appear there for you to view
If we identify anything that needs specialist attention, we can refer you into the NHS pathway or to a private specialist — your choice
Our clinicians keep comprehensive notes so you always have a copy of your own record, whether or not it reaches your GP
We never compete with your GP relationship — we work alongside it at the level you're comfortable with
